Fresnillo is the world's largest producer of silver from ore (primary silver) and Mexico's second-largest gold miner.[2] The first Mexican firm to have its primary listing on the LSE,[3] Fresnillo is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. HistoryFormerly a wholly owned operating division of Industrias Peñoles, a minority stake in the company was spun off on the London Stock Exchange in a May 2008 IPO, with a secondary listing on the Mexican Stock Exchange on the same day.[4] On 15 August 2012, Octavio Alvídrez took over as chief executive from Jaime Lomelín, following a handover period.[5] OperationsThe company operates three gold and silver mines in Mexico: the largest in terms of silver output is Mina Proaño, also known as Fresnillo Mine, located near the city of Fresnillo in Zacatecas, with the other mines at Cienega in Durango and Herradura in Sonora. In 2007 Fresnillo produced 34.3 million ounces of silver and 279,614 ounces of gold, as well as around 20 tons each of zinc and lead as by products from the three mines. Industrias Peñoles retained the rights to its primary base metals mines when Fresnillo was spun off.[6] The company also has 21 active exploration projects located across the country,[6] and has signalled plans to use the money raised in its IPO to expand into Peru and Chile.[7] References1. ^1 2 {{Cite web |url=http://www.fresnilloplc.com/media/402396/fres-fy18-preliminary-release-26feb19.pdf|title=Preliminary Results 2018 |accessdate=3 March 2019 |publisher=Fresnillo}} 2. ^{{Cite news|url=https://www.forbes.com/afxnewslimited/feeds/afx/2008/04/11/afx4878774.html|title=Mexico's Industrias Penoles to spin off Fresnillo in London IPO|date=11 April 2008|agency=AFX News|work=Forbes |accessdate=21 September 2008|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20110622010841/http://www.forbes.com/feeds/afx/2008/04/11/afx4878774.html|archivedate=22 June 2011 }} 3. ^{{Cite news|url=http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/investing-and-markets/article.html?in_article_id=451070&in_page_id=3|title=Mexican to make waves on the Footsie|last=Fleming|first=Sam|date=28 August 2008|work=Daily Mail |location=UK|publisher=This is Money|accessdate=21 September 2008}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://metalsplace.com/news/articles/19118/fresnillo-ipo-to-raise-us900-million/|title=Fresnillo IPO to raise US$900 million|publisher=Metals Place|date=14 April 2008|accessdate=24 March 2012|archive-url=https://archive.is/20120712181959/http://metalsplace.com/news/articles/19118/fresnillo-ipo-to-raise-us900-million/|archive-date=12 July 2012|dead-url=yes|df=dmy-all}} 5. ^{{Cite news|url=http://www.rttnews.com/1931544/fresnillo-ceo-jaime-lomel%C3%ADn-retires-quick-facts.aspx|title=Fresnillo CEO Jaime Lomelín Retires - Quick Facts|work=RTT News |date=26 June 2012|accessdate=28 November 2012}} 6. ^1 {{Cite web|url=http://www.fresnilloplc.com/IR_OI_PV_annual.html|title=Production volumes: annual|publisher=Fresnillo|accessdate=21 September 2008}} {{Dead link|date=October 2010|bot=H3llBot}} 7. ^{{Cite news|url=http://us.ft.com/ftgateway/superpage.ft?news_id=fto050920081757173271|title=Fresnillo suffers 6% fall during London debut|last=Bream|first=Rebecca|date=9 May 2008|work=Financial Times|accessdate=21 September 2008|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110929155051/http://us.ft.com/ftgateway/superpage.ft?news_id=fto050920081757173271|archive-date=29 September 2011|dead-url=yes|df=dmy-all}} External links{{Portal|Companies}}
