It was established in 2010 and is published by Frontiers Media, who were included in Jeffrey Beall's now-defunct list of "potential, possible, or probable predatory publishers".[1] The editor-in-chief is Axel Cleeremans (Université libre de Bruxelles). Abstracting and indexingThe journal is abstracted and indexed in Current Contents/Social & Behavioral Sciences,[2] EBSCO databases, PsycINFO,[3] Scopus,[4] and the Social Science Citation Index.[2] According to the Journal Citation Reports, the journal has a 2016 impact factor of 2.321.[5] ReputationIn February 2013, Frontiers published a study by Stephan Lewandowsky and co-authors which analysed conspiracy theory explanations given in blog responses to an earlier paper about conspiracy theories and support for free-market economics as indicators of a climate change denial stance. In March 2014, Frontiers retracted the study, and made a statement that they had received "a small number of complaints". Their detailed investigation "did not identify any issues with the academic and ethical aspects of the study. It did, however, determine that the legal context is insufficiently clear and therefore Frontiers wishes to retract the published article." There were public concerns about the "chilling effect" of the decision on research. One of the reviewers of the paper said that the withdrawal was unwarranted, and she would no longer carry out reviews for the journal.[6][7]{{citation needed|reason=Need RS|date=March 2016}} On 4 April 2014 Costanza Zucca, editorial director of the journal, and Fred Fenter, executive editor, issued a statement saying that Frontiers did not cave in to threats, and it in fact received no threats. The statement gave the main reason for retraction as insufficient protection for the rights of the studied subjects.[8] There was public discussion about apparent contradictions between the statements issued by the journal. And the authors of the paper disputed points raised in the second statement.[9] Frontiers Media was included in Jeffrey Beall's list of "potential, possible, or probable predatory publishers" before Beall took the decision to shut down his website,[10] though both COPE and OASPA have stated that they have no concerns with Frontiers' membership of their organizations.[11][12] References1. ^{{cite web |url=https://scholarlyoa.com/publishers/ |title=LIST OF PUBLISHERS |date=2012-01-15 |website=Scholarly Open Access |last1=Beall |first1=Jeffrey |authorlink=Jeffrey Beall |accessdate=2016-07-29 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20160801084124/https://scholarlyoa.com/publishers/ |archivedate=2016-08-01 |df= }} 2. ^1 {{cite web |url=http://mjl.clarivate.com/ |title=Master Journal List |publisher=Clarivate Analytics |work=Intellectual Property & Science |accessdate=2018-04-07}} 3. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.apa.org/pubs/databases/psycinfo/coverage.aspx |publisher=American Psychological Association |title=PsycINFO Journal Coverage |accessdate=2018-04-07}} 4. ^{{cite web |url=https://www.scopus.com/sourceid/21100216571 |title=Source details: Frontiers in Psychology |publisher=Elsevier |work=Scopus preview |accessdate=2018-04-07}} 5. ^{{cite book |year=2017 |chapter=Frontiers in Psychology |title=2016 Journal Citation Reports |publisher=Clarivate Analytics |edition=Social Sciences |series=Web of Science}} 6. ^{{cite web | last=Hannam | first=Peter | title='Conspiracist' climate change study withdrawn amid legal threats | website=The Sydney Morning Herald | date=2 April 2014 | url=http://www.smh.com.au/environment/climate-change/conspiracist-climate-change-study-withdrawn-amid-legal-threats-20140401-35xao.html | accessdate=27 July 2015}} 7. ^{{cite web | last=Osborne | first=Hannah | title=Study Linking Climate Sceptics and Conspiracy Theorists Pulled on Legal Threats | website=International Business Times UK | date=2 April 2014 | url=http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/climate-sceptics-conspiracy-theorists-link-study-pulled-legal-threats-1443026 | accessdate=27 July 2015}} 8. ^{{cite web | url=http://www.frontiersin.org/blog/Retraction_of_Recursive_Fury_A_Statement/812 | title=Retraction of Recursive Fury: A Statement | work=Frontiers in Psychology | date=4 April 2014 | accessdate=5 April 2014 | author=Zucca, Constanza}} 9. ^{{cite web | last=Timmer | first=John | title=Legal or privacy problems?
