Traditionally the area was part of the Lower Carniola region. It is now included with the rest of the municipality in the Central Sava Statistical Region; until January 2014 the municipality was part of the Central Slovenia Statistical Region.[2] In addition to the center of the settlement, formerly known as Sveti Križ pri Litiji ({{lang-de|Heiligenkreuz}}),[3] it includes the hamlets of Orešje, Pretržje (in older sources also Pretežje),[3] and Trzne.[4] ChurchThe local parish church is dedicated to the Exaltation of the Cross and belongs to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Novo Mesto.
