It is owned by the Araneta Center, Inc., a subsidiary of the Araneta Group. HistoryGateway MallDubbed "Like No Other Mall in the World", the ₱2 Billion Complex commenced construction of the mall broke ground in 2002[1] and was opened in October 2004.[2] The mall has five levels above ground primarily for retail use and three levels of basement parking space. It has a total floor area of {{convert|100000|m2|sqft|abbr=on}} and is connected to the Smart Araneta Coliseum and Farmers Plaza by a walkway. The mall hosts a 10-cinema cineplex (Gateway Cineplex 10) which includes the 500-seater Cinema 5 and the Platinum Cinema which is touted by the mall owners as the "first La-Z-Boy theater" in the Philippines.[3] The Mall also houses Rustan's, H&M, Miniso, Apple Inc., Xiaomi among other shops, including food and retail, The Oasis (a one-of-a-kind Garden) in the mall, And the Gateway Food Park, where events as well as Fresh Grilled Foods are being served (Now Gave way for the Ibis Styles Hotel and Gateway Mall 2). The mall is also connected to the lower six retail levels of the adjacent Gateway Tower which was constructed in 2013.[3] The wing is connected to the 2nd floor of the New Frontier Theater via Elevated Bridge. Gateway Mall 2The Gateway Mall 2 is the expansion project of the Gateway Mall. [4] [5] [6] [7] With eight levels of retail, nine cinemas cineplex, a 3,500 square meter Gourmet Hall, and an iconic, 500-seater chapel.[8] [9] The ₱6.5 Billion Expansion of the mall was scheduled to commence within 2016 or early 2017,[10] As part of the Araneta Center Redevelopment Plan. [11] It is to be built at west side of the Smart Araneta Coliseum (Red Gate), adjacent to a planned Ibis Hotel branch,[12]and will have a designated roof deck activity area linking to Gateway Mall 1, an activity area, an organic vegetable garden, and an island restaurant-food court. [3] As of second quarter of 2017, the part linking to Farmers Plaza is under construction, and on August 2017, the former Food Park, as well as the former parking space in front of the coliseum, along with the coliseum's Red Gate facade, were dug up to give way for the construction of the Main Building of the Mall , including The Upcoming Ibis Hotel . When completed, the development will have {{convert|120000|m2|sqft|abbr=on}} of retail space, along with Ibis Styles Hotel, the first Ibis Styles hotel in the Philippines, rising 24-Storeys High.[13] With a bridge linking a planned Cyber Mall located at the Cyberpark and Megawide Construction Corporation as the general contractor, it is planned for completion in 2020, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the opening of the Araneta Coliseum. [14] Gateway Mall 3A planned expansion project of the Gateway Mall will add {{convert|100000|m2|sqft|abbr=on}} of retail space,[15] and currently on the conceptual stage, which is planned on the Farmer's Market including 3 sets of Towers. [16] Once completed, The Gateway Malls 1, 2 and 3 will have an overall GFA of {{convert|330000|m2|sqft|abbr=on}} and will have more than 700-800 shops upon completion. ReceptionGateway Mall received critical acclaimed from the retail and developer industries. The Philippine Retailers Association named the shopping mall as the Shopping Center of the Year twice, in 2006 and 2007. At the 30th Innovative Design and Development Awards of the International Council of Shopping Centers’ the mall is a recipient of a Merit Award.
