The area of the district is {{convert|14928|km2|sp=us}}.[3] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a settlement) of Gayny.[1] Population: {{ru-census|p2010=13,802|p2002=17,351|p1989=21,477}} The population of Gayny accounts for 29.9% of the district's total population. Geography and climateMajor rivers flowing through the district include the Kama and its tributary the Veslyana. Other significant rivers are the Chyornaya, the Timsher, and the Lupiya. The largest lake is Lake Adovo with an area of {{convert|3.6|km2|sp=us}}. Climate is temperate continental with long and cold winters. Mid-January temperature is {{convert|-16.7|C}}; mid-July temperature is {{convert|+17.3|C}}. Annual precipitation is {{convert|500|-|550|mm|sp=us}}. In the north of the district, pine forests dominate, comprising about 50% of the total forested area, while in the south spruce forests are more common. HistoryThe district was established on September 15, 1926.[3] DemographicsThe Komi-Permyak people are the aboriginal population. EconomyThe economy of the district is based on timber industry. There are also dairy and brick factories and a mechanical-repair plant in Gayny. Arable lands make up less than 1% of the total district's area. TransportationRoad network is poorly developed, with the density of only about {{convert|0.6|km|sp=us}} of paved roars per {{convert|100|km2|sp=us}}. Gayny is connected by roads with Kudymkar and Syktyvkar; there are no bus station in the settlement, and the only bus stop is in its center. The Kama River plays a significant role in transportation.
