As of 2003 the district had a population of 186,719.[2] The district covers an area of 311 km2. The district capital lies at Giồng Trôm.[2] This district is the home country of Phan Văn Trị. The commune Mỹ Thạnh has the famous speciality: Mỹ Lồng rice paper. The district includes Phước Long, Giồng Trôm.
