Gloria Bird is a poet and scholar and member of the Spokane Tribe of Washington State. She is one of the founding members of the Northwest Native American Writers Association. AwardsBird has received two grants for her writing, the Oregon Institute of Literary Arts' "Oregon Writer's Grant" in 1988 and the Witter-Bynner Foundation grant in 1993. In 1993, her book of poetry Full Moon on the Reservation received the Diane Decorah Memorial Award and the Native Writers' Circle of the Americas award for First Book of Poetry.
