It was formed in 1993, having previously been part of Gmina Herby. Its seat is the village of Boronów, which lies approximately {{convert|16|km|mi|0}} east of Lubliniec and {{convert|49|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} north of the regional capital Katowice. The gmina covers an area of {{convert|56|km2|sqmi|1}}, and as of 2006 its total population is 3,303. The gmina contains part of the protected area called Upper Liswarta Forests Landscape Park. VillagesGmina Boronów contains the villages and settlements of Boronów, Cielec, Dębowa Góra, Doły, Grojec, Hucisko, Sitki, Szklana Huta and Zumpy.
