Its seat is the village of Ciasna, which lies approximately {{convert|11|km|mi|0}} north-west of Lubliniec and {{convert|64|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} north-west of the regional capital Katowice. The gmina covers an area of {{convert|134.17|km2|sqmi|1}}, and as of 2006 its total population is 7,938. The gmina contains part of the protected area called Upper Liswarta Forests Landscape Park.
