Its seat is the town of Dobczyce, which lies approximately {{convert|15|km|mi|0}} north-east of Myślenice and {{convert|22|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} south-east of the regional capital Kraków. The gmina covers an area of {{convert|66.63|km2|sqmi|1}}, and as of 2006 its total population is 13,941 (out of which the population of Dobczyce amounts to 6,028, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 7,913).
