Its seat is the village of Lipowa, which lies approximately {{convert|8|km|mi|0}} west of Żywiec and {{convert|64|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} south of the regional capital Katowice. The gmina covers an area of {{convert|58.08|km2|sqmi|1}}, and as of 2006 its total population is 9,681.
