Its seat is the village of Lyski, which lies approximately {{convert|13|km|mi|0}} west of Rybnik and {{convert|46|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} west of the regional capital Katowice. The gmina covers an area of {{convert|57.83|km2|sqmi|1}}, and as of 2006 its total population is 8,924. The gmina contains part of the protected area called Rudy Landscape Park.
