Its seat is the town of Nowe Brzesko, which lies approximately {{convert|10|km|mi|0}} south-east of Proszowice and {{convert|33|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} east of the regional capital Kraków. The gmina covers an area of {{convert|54.53|km2|sqmi|1}}, and as of 2006 its total population is 5,769. It was formerly classed as a rural gmina, becoming urban-rural when Nowe Brzesko became a town on 1 January 2011.
