Its seat is the town of Nowy Tomyśl, which lies approximately {{convert|55|km|mi|0}} west of the regional capital Poznań. The gmina covers an area of {{convert|185.89|km2|sqmi|1}}, and as of 2006 its total population is 24,237 (out of which the population of Nowy Tomyśl amounts to 15,225, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 9,012).
