Its seat is the village of Sitno, which lies approximately {{convert|10|km|mi|0}} north-east of Zamość and {{convert|78|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} south-east of the regional capital Lublin. The gmina covers an area of {{convert|112.07|km2|sqmi|1}}, and as of 2006 its total population is 6,774 (6,855 in 2013). The gmina contains part of the protected area called Skierbieszów Landscape Park.
