Its seat is the village of Uchanie, which lies approximately {{convert|20|km|mi|0}} north-west of Hrubieszów and {{convert|84|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} south-east of the regional capital Lublin. The gmina covers an area of {{convert|120.75|km2|sqmi|1}}, and as of 2006 its total population is 5,009 (4,873 in 2013). The gmina contains part of the protected area called Strzelce Landscape Park.
