Greece and Ellinikí Radiofonía Tileórasi (ERT) chose to host a National Selection with the winner being chosen by televoting (50%) and an "expert" jury (50%). Antique was chosen with "Die for You" and placed 3rd at Eurovision.

National final

The National Final took place on March 6, 2001 at Rex nightclub in Athens and the host of the show was Dafni Bokota.[1] At the start of the National Final, there were 9 songs competing. Each of the songs was performed and the "expert" jury voted for its favorite. The four songs that received the most points were then performed for a second time where the winner was chosen via televoting (50%) and a second vote by the "expert" jury (50%). The winner of the televoting was rewarded four points, the second placed song three points, the third two points and the fourth one point. The same point value was awarded with the jury's vote. In the event of a tie, the televoting result was given greater value.[2]

At Eurovision

"Die for You" was performed twenty-second on the night (following Malta's Fabrizio Faniello with "Another Summer Night" and preceding Denmark's Rollo & King with "Never Ever Let You Go"). At the close of voting, it had received 147 points, placing 3rd in a field of 23.

The contest performance was a relatively static affair, with both singers as well as the backing vocalists standing in front of microphones to sing. Elena Paparizou, however, wore a tight white outfit, standing out against the black-clad backing singers and her duet partner. While the contest had by this point embraced pre-recorded music, Nikos Panagiotidis performed with a traditional Greek instrument throughout.

The third-place finish was Greece's highest place until the 2005 Contest, when Paparizou, performing solo, won the Contest.

It was succeeded as Greek representative at the 2002 Contest by Michalis Rakintzis with "S.A.G.A.P.O.".
