It is located on Route 9, on Russell Street in Hadley, Massachusetts between Amherst and Northampton, approximately five miles east of I-91's Exit 19 and across the street from the Mountain Farms Mall. HistoryThe Hadley Corner location was previously home to the Montgomery Company; a large rose growing operation that included many acres of greenhouses, a wholesale floral distributor and a small retail floral shop with a greenhouse. Alexander William Montgomery along with his sons Robert J Montgomery and Alexander William Montgomery started the rose growing business in the early 1900s on 54 acres and 4 acres of greenhouses. The business was a stalwart presence in Hadley until it was bought in 2008 by Home Depot. ControversySeveral local pressure groups paint this facility as being a cause of concern with land loss, excessive traffic and an insufficient water supply.[3][4] Other residents support the development as it enables customers to obtain lower prices and allows the convenience of large stores that otherwise would have required long trips to Springfield. They also point to the area's growing population as needing new stores and a plan by the state of Massachusetts to complete the widening of Route 9 from Northampton to the Amherst border as a solution to traffic jams.[5] References1. ^Daily Collegian article 2. ^Hadley Neighbors article 3. ^Planned Home Depot construction worries residents 4. ^Hadley board presses traffic, shuttle issues 5. ^{{cite web | last = Merzbach | first =Scott | authorlink = | coauthors = | title =State eyes Route 9 widening project near mall | work = | publisher =North Adams Transcript | date = 2010-06-24 | url =http://www.gazettenet.com/story/273351 | format = | doi = | accessdate = 2010-08-23}} External links{{Shopping malls in Massachusetts}} 3 : Buildings and structures in Hadley, Massachusetts|Shopping malls established in 2009|Shopping malls in Massachusetts |
