Downer was a right-handed batsman. He was born in Southampton, Hampshire. Downer served in the British Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Intelligence Corps during the Second World War.[2] Following the war, Downer represented Hampshire in two first-class matches in 1946, the first County Championship after the war. He made his debut against Middlesex at Lord's. In this match he was dismissed for a single run in Hampshire's first-innings by Bill Etherington. In their second-innings he was dismissed for 4 by the same bowler.[3] His second and final first-class match came against Gloucestershire at the County Ground, Southampton.[4] In this match he was dismissed for a duck in Hampshire's first-innings by Sam Cook and in their second-innings he was run out for 3.[5] His two matches for Hampshire had yielded him 8 runs at a batting average of 2.00.[6] References1. ^{{cite web|title = Harry Downer|publisher = Hampshire Cricket History|date = 2012-06-25|url = http://hampshirecrickethistory.wordpress.com/2012/06/25/harry-downer/|accessdate = 2012-08-28}} 2. ^{{London Gazette |issue=35175 |date=1941-05-27 |supp=y |page=3084 }} 3. ^{{cite web|url=https://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Scorecards/17/17615.html|title=Middlesex v Hampshire, 1946 County Championship|publisher=CricketArchive|accessdate=26 April 2011}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=https://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Players/6/6569/First-Class_Matches.html|title=First-Class Matches played by Harry Downer|publisher=CricketArchive|accessdate=26 April 2011}} 5. ^{{cite web|url=https://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Scorecards/17/17807.html|title=Hampshire v Gloucestershire, 1946 County Championship|publisher=CricketArchive|accessdate=26 April 2011}} 6. ^{{cite web|url=https://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Players/6/6569/f_Batting_by_Team.html|title=First-class Batting and Fielding For Each Team by Harry Downer|publisher=CricketArchive|accessdate=26 April 2011}} External links
