HistoryThe school was established in 1885[1] by philanthropist Hassan Ali, who hailed from the neighboring district Lakshmipur District. When this school was established, the Silver Jubilee of Queen Victoria was occurring, so the school was named Chandpur Hasan Ali Jubilee High School. But now it is known as Chandpur Hasan Ali Government High School. In the past, male and female students both are taught. But day by day the number of students was increasing. When it was 1700 Zamindar Marhum Ahmed Raja Chowdhury established a Muslim Hostel in the place of Govt. Girls' College. On the other hand, Nabakanta Mukhapadhya established a Hindu Hostel in Jor Pukur Par. Now the Muslim Hostel is used as a hostel of Chandpur Govt. Girls' College & Hindu Hostel is used as the only one hostel of the school. The school was turned into Govt. School on 1 May 1969. The school is known as one of the oldest in the city of Chandpur and the 5th oldest in the then Chittagong Division. A detailed history of the school has been written by M. Abdul Hamid Mazumder (M.A, M.Ed, LL.B), who served as a Headmaster of the school from 1949–1972. The school celebrated its 125-year anniversary in December 2012. The School has produced notable educators, civic leaders and administrators in the country. From its inception the school was located near Kali Bari for 34 years. In 1919, the school moved to its current location. At that stage the school was a two-storey red brick building. The current three story yellow building is about 20 years old. This school is proposed in 2011 a Govt. College also named Hasan Ali Govt. A student of this school took part in World Scout Jamboree as a representative of Bangladesh. He is the only student of Bangladesh who took part in World Scout Jamboree in Sweden. LibraryThis school has two rich libraries. One is Bishya Sahitya Kendra-BRAC Joined Library and another is School's Self Library. There are 25,000 books in these libraries. It is the largest school library of Bangladesh. StudentsIn the past, both male and female students studied in this school, but it is now only for boys. 2100 is the highest number of students.
