It is notable for its caves - 'Mahakali Caves', particularly one containing a shrine of the HinduGod Shiva, his family and the deity Hanuman. It belongs to the K/E ward of Mumbai[1]. On the Mumbai Suburban Railway, (which is part of the Indian Western Railway line,) that runs from Churchgate to Virar, Jogeshwari is north of and next to Andheri and has a train station[2] of the same name. The Jogeshwari - Vikhroli Link Road connects Jogeshwari a western suburb of Mumbai with Vikhroli an eastern suburb. This road typically experiences traffic jams during peak hours but has improved access and connectivity between the city's suburbs.[3] Places of interestJogeshwari CavesThe Jogeshwari caves are located in the eastern part of Jogeshwari. Dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva, the caves are estimated to be 1,500 years old and are some of the oldest cave temples in Mumbai. They are believed to have been carved by Buddhist monks and Hindu priests and they contain ornate sculptures. The caves are also referred to as having been built by the Pandavas during their vanwas (i.e. banishment). It is believed to have a secret road which takes one to the 'Mahakali Gupha The size of the cave complex rivals several UNESCO World Heritage sites nearby, such as the cave temples of Ajanta, Elephanta, and Ellora. The Jogeshwari caves are not maintained and thus are in a dismal condition. They are being used for drying clothes and as toilets by the surrounding slum population.[4] Kamal Amrohi StudiosKamal Amrohi Studios (Kamalistan Studios) is located in Jogeshwari east off of the JVLR (Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road). The film studio was used as a set for the film Dabangg 2 in 2012.[5] Education
