词条 | Henry Wood Elliott |
释义 |
A number of his works have an ethnographic bent, displaying aboriginal Alaskans engaging in traditional practices; some of these works are stored in the National Anthropological Archives at the Smithsonian. Elliott also focused on the Alaskan landscape and wildlife.[2] In 1886, Elliott published a book entitled Alaska and the Seal Islands, which contains an in-depth exploration of Alaska's history, geography, people, and wildlife.[3] He became involved in early conservation efforts of the fur seal, in 1905 co-authoring a document with United States Secretary of State John Hay that would eventually become the North Pacific Fur Seal Convention of 1911, the first international treaty dedicated to the conservation of wildlife.[4] GalleryReferences1. ^{{cite web|url=https://case.edu/ech/articles/e/elliott-henry-wood/|work=Encyclopedia of Cleveland History|title=Elliott, Henry Wood}} {{Authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Elliott, Henry Wood}}{{Alaska-bio-stub}}{{US-painter-1840s-stub}}2. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.nmnh.si.edu/naa/features/elliott.htm|title=Henry Wood Elliott: An American Artist in Alaska|publisher=National Museum of Natural History}} 3. ^{{cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?hl=en&id=hOxkclp7TTEC&dq=Henry+Wood+Elliott&printsec=frontcover&source=web&ots=Ss7xuhHeAp&sig=PhL7pNw7xl6xemyYp-KnlmZu4dM&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=6&ct=result#PPR8,M1|title=Our Arctic Province: Alaska and the Seal Islands|publisher=Charles Scribner's Sons|year=1886|location=New York}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://celebrating200years.noaa.gov/events/fursealtreaty/welcome.html#treaty|title=North Pacific Fur Seal Treaty of 1911|publisher=National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration}} 7 : 1846 births|1930 deaths|19th-century American painters|American male painters|20th-century American painters|American naturalists|People of pre-statehood Alaska |
