It serves students from the cities of Herriman, South Jordan, and Riverton. Building and campusHHS was designed by MHTN Architects, and had an estimated cost of $71,960,000.[2] The grounds cover 55 acres, and has 390,000 square feet of floor space. Located in the southwest corner of the Salt Lake Valley in the Jordan School District, the front of the building faces west with a view of the Oquirrh Mountains. The building is energy efficient and includes wind turbines and solar panels.[3] AcademicsHerriman High School offers Spanish, French, Chinese, and American Sign Language. Student newspaper controversyIn January 2018, Herriman High School came under national scrutiny for censoring the school's student newspaper, following an investigation by student journalists, exposing how a teacher was fired for exchanging inappropriate text messages with a 17-year-old student.[4][5] Students launched a new publication in response, The Telegram,[6] and re-published the investigation's findings.[7] The censorship garnered nationwide attention[8] and resulted in the school being awarded the Jefferson Muzzle Award.[9] School athletics{{refimprove section|date=May 2018}}Herriman High School has an athletics department that includes the following sports.[10]
