The channel is operated by Foxtel Networks, and the programming and name of the channel is licensed to them by A&E Networks. It started out as Fox History in 1996, and changed its name to The History Channel in November 1998.[2][3] The channel used share its frequency with Fox Kids until December 2000, when it got its own 24-hour channel.[4] On 3 November 2014, History launched a high-definition feed.[5] References1. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.oztam.com.au/documents%5C2007%5CB1_20070422.pdf |title=Archived copy |accessdate=2015-08-29 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20090912100026/http://www.oztam.com.au/documents/2007/B1_20070422.pdf |archivedate=12 September 2009 |df=dmy-all }} {{A+E Networks}}{{Foxtel}}{{Subscription television channels in Australia}}2. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.acma.gov.au/webwr/aba/newspubs/radio_tv/investigations/documents/general/paytvdocs.pdf|title=Investigation into Expenditure Requirement for Pay TV Documentary Channels|publisher=Australian Broadcasting Authority}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.aetninternational.com/content/sales/client_list.doc|title=The History Channel}} 4. ^{{cite journal | journal = The Hollywood Reporter | title = New pay TV offerings from Australia's Foxtel. | first = Blake | last = Murdoch | section = | page = 10 | volume = 365 | issue = 43 | issn = 0018-3660 | date = 28 November 2000 | accessdate = 2 May 2010 | url = http://allbusiness.com/services/motion-pictures/4829937-1.html | deadurl = yes | archiveurl = https://web.archive.org/web/20110824153500/http://www.allbusiness.com/services/motion-pictures/4829937-1.html | archivedate = 24 August 2011 | df = dmy-all }} 5. ^{{cite web|last=Knox|first=David|title=BoxSets, Discovery Kids launch on Foxtel.|publisher=TV Tonight|date=3 November 2014|url=http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2014/11/boxsets-discovery-kids-launch-on-foxtel.html|accessdate=5 November 2014}} 5 : Australian television networks|Television channels and stations established in 1996|1996 establishments in Australia|English-language television stations in Australia|English-language television stations in New Zealand |
