HistoryDesigned by the Rev. Robert Hunt, an English missionary who founded Stanley Mission in 1851[1] with the permission of the Hudson's Bay Company, it was built between 1854 and 1860 by local Cree craftsmen using locally cut lumber as well as hardware and stained glass that Hunt had brought from England. The church was at one time the centre of an active missionary complex that included nearly 30 supporting buildings and a cemetery.[2] It is currently the oldest standing building in Saskatchewan. Although not the seat of a bishop, it has been called a cathedral because of its massive size with a tall central nave and elaborate spire.[3][4][5] Holy Trinity Anglican Church was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1970.[6] It is also a provincially registered historic site as designated by the government of Saskatchewan on August 26, 1981.[7] A ceremony celebrating the church's 150th anniversary was held on June 10, 2010.[8] References1. ^{{cite book|last=Crean|first=Frank Joseph Patrick|authorlink=|coauthors=|title=New northwest exploration|publisher=Government Printing Bureau for Department of the Interior|series=|volume=|edition=|date=1910|location=Ottawa|pages=40–42|language=|url=http://peel.library.ualberta.ca/bibliography/3285.html|doi=|id=|isbn=|mr=|zbl=|jfm=}} 2. ^{{cite web|url=http://heritageapp.cyr.gov.sk.ca/assets/pdf/613.pdf|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120329150937/http://heritageapp.cyr.gov.sk.ca/assets/pdf/613.pdf|dead-url=yes|archive-date=2012-03-29|title=Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Stanley Mission|publisher=[Saskatchewan Register of Heritage Property|accessdate=2011-07-10}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.historicplaces.ca/en/rep-reg/place-lieu.aspx?id=2917&pid=0|title=Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Stanley Mission|publisher=Canadian Register of Historic Places|accessdate=2011-07-10}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://esask.uregina.ca/entry/stanley_mission.html|title=Stanley Mission|last=McLennan|first=David|work=Encyclopedia of Saskatchewan|publisher=Great Plains Research Center|year=2006|accessdate=2010-05-10}} 5. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.townoflaronge.ca/Welcome/LacLaRonge.php|title=Lac la Ronge|publisher=Town of La Ronge|year=2004|accessdate=2010-05-10}} 6. ^{{CRHP|12545|Holy Trinity Church National Historic Site of Canada|17 August 2012}} 7. ^{{CRHP|2917|Holy Trinity Church|17 August 2012}} 8. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/sask-s-oldest-building-turns-150-1.895013|title=Sask.'s oldest building turns 150|publisher=CBC News|date=June 10, 2010|accessdate=2010-06-10}} External links
