HistoryThe station opened on 15 October 1849 as Killylung.[1] Within a year it was renamed as Holywood.[2] The station is now closed, although the line through the station is still open. One platform still exists and a level crossing controlled by a signal box. The small village of Holywood with its church stands a little way off and the old creamery stands close by to the station site. {{Expand section|date=October 2008}}{{Historical Rail Start}}{{rail line|previous = {{Stnlnk|Auldgirth}} Line open; station closed |next = {{Stnlnk|Dumfries}} Line and station open |route = Glasgow and South Western Railway Glasgow, Dumfries and Carlisle Railway |col = {{G&SW colour}} |lightcol={{G&SW light}} }}{{s-end}}{{Clear}} Views of Holywood signal box and level crossingReferencesNotes1. ^1 2 Butt (1995), page 132 2. ^1 Butt (1995), page 122 Sources
