BiographyVan Etten was born on May 17, 1874, in Port Jervis, New York, and after entering the navy was sent to fight in the Spanish–American War aboard the USS Nashville as a seaman.[1] He died on October 27, 1941, and is buried in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Greenland, New Hampshire.[2] Medal of Honor citationRank and organization: Seaman, U.S. Navy.
