It is a commercially important species where it occurs. This species grows to a length of {{convert|10|cm|in}} TL. This species is the only known member of its genus.[1] Like sticklebacks, it feeds on small invertebrates and fish larvae. Also like sticklebacks, it produces a sticky secretion from its kidneys when breeding. The parent uses the secretion to attach the eggs to sargassum.[2] References1. ^1 {{FishBase|genus=Hypoptychus|species=dybowskii|id=488|month=October|year=2012}} {{Taxonbar|from=Q680198}}{{Gasterosteiformes-stub}}いかなご2. ^{{cite book |editor=Paxton, J.R. |editor2=Eschmeyer, W.N.|author1=Orr, J.W. |author2=Pietsch, T.W.|year=1998|title=Encyclopedia of Fishes|publisher= Academic Press|location=San Diego|pages= 172|isbn= 0-12-547665-5}} 4 : Gasterosteiformes|Monotypic ray-finned fish genera|Fish described in 1880|Fish of Korea |
