It is located at North Milwaukee Avenue and Logan Boulevard in the public square known as Logan Square. The monumument is cased in Tennessee marble.[5] The column is located in the triangular-shaped Logan Square park within Logan Square.[6] The column is composed of 13 solid marble segments and is based on the same proportions and scale as the columns that make up the colonnade of the Parthenon in Greece.[7] The column is opposed by a flagpole and a concrete plaque dedicated to American soldiers who died in World War I, World War II and the Korean War.[6] The monument was funded by the Benjamin Ferguson Fund.[8] Daniel Boone, Hiawatha and Ceres are among those depicted in the base.[9] In 1997 the Chicago Department of Transportation planted 81 trees around the column including hackberry, patmore green ash, skyline honeylocust, red oak, swamp white oak, alpine currant, Virginia Rose and three varieties of hawthorns, downy, Washington and thornless cockspur.[10] Notes1. ^{{cite web|url=http://webapps.cityofchicago.org/LandmarksWeb/districtDetail.do?disID=146|title=Logan Square Boulevards District|accessdate=March 19, 2009|publisher=City of Chicago Department of Planning and Development, Landmarks Division}} 2. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.preservationchicago.org/risk/logan.html|title=Logan Square Boulevards District|accessdate=March 19, 2009|year=2008|publisher=Preservation Chicago}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.chicagoreader.com/features/stories/logansquare/architecture/|title=Between the Boulevards: An architectural tour|accessdate=March 18, 2009|date=August 10, 2007|work=Chicago Reader|author=Becker, Lynn}} 4. ^Library of Congress, DN-0088786, Chicago Daily News negatives collection, Chicago Historical Society 5. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.earlychicago.com/monuments.php?letter=I|title=Monuments|accessdate=March 20, 2009|publisher=Early Chicago, Inc.}} 6. ^1 2 {{cite web|url=http://docs.newsbank.com/openurl?ctx_ver=z39.88-2004&rft_id=info:sid/iw.newsbank.com:NewsBank:CSTB&rft_val_format=info:ofi/fmt:kev:mtx:ctx&rft_dat=0EB36DDBFA2E1063&svc_dat=InfoWeb:aggregated5&req_dat=C23BE832E46446E3AEC1CCAEBDEAF5AE|title=System bars genuine glasnost|accessdate=March 18, 2009|date=June 5, 1988|work=Chicago Sun-Times}} 7. ^1 {{cite web|url=http://docs.newsbank.com/openurl?ctx_ver=z39.88-2004&rft_id=info:sid/iw.newsbank.com:NewsBank:CSTB&rft_val_format=info:ofi/fmt:kev:mtx:ctx&rft_dat=10F1EC6E3B951128&svc_dat=InfoWeb:aggregated5&req_dat=C23BE832E46446E3AEC1CCAEBDEAF5AE|title=Logan Square|accessdate=March 21, 2009|date=January 13, 2006|work=Chicago Sun-Times|author=Guerrero, Lucio}} 8. ^{{cite web|url=http://docs.newsbank.com/openurl?ctx_ver=z39.88-2004&rft_id=info:sid/iw.newsbank.com:NewsBank:CSTB&rft_val_format=info:ofi/fmt:kev:mtx:ctx&rft_dat=0EB37362D33E53CF&svc_dat=InfoWeb:aggregated5&req_dat=C23BE832E46446E3AEC1CCAEBDEAF5AE|title=Public statues are lumberman's legacy to city|accessdate=March 18, 2009|date=August 9, 1991|work=Chicago Sun-Times|author=Hermann, Andrew}} 9. ^{{cite web|url=http://docs.newsbank.com/openurl?ctx_ver=z39.88-2004&rft_id=info:sid/iw.newsbank.com:NewsBank:CSTB&rft_val_format=info:ofi/fmt:kev:mtx:ctx&rft_dat=0EB423B764803853&svc_dat=InfoWeb:aggregated5&req_dat=C23BE832E46446E3AEC1CCAEBDEAF5AE|title=Logan Square walking tour scheduled to step off|accessdate=March 20, 2009|date=August 28, 1998|work=Chicago Sun-Times|author=Cunniff, Bill}} 10. ^{{cite web|url=http://docs.newsbank.com/openurl?ctx_ver=z39.88-2004&rft_id=info:sid/iw.newsbank.com:NewsBank:CTRB&rft_val_format=info:ofi/fmt:kev:mtx:ctx&rft_dat=0EB428741D5CE016&svc_dat=InfoWeb:aggregated5&req_dat=C23BE832E46446E3AEC1CCAEBDEAF5AE|title=Tree-Dimensional - Chicago Digs In For Record Planting Season|accessdate=March 20, 2009|date=May 25, 1997|work=Chicago Tribune|author=Recktenwald, William}} External links
