The company marketed computers through retailers across the United Kingdom and exported to Europe and North Africa. HistoryiQon Technologies was founded in 1994 under the name ROMAK Computers by Dermot McElroy, Lars Krull and Patrick Rooney. The company was sold in 1997 to US worldwide distributor CHS ELECTRONICS Inc. After the collapse of CHS ELECTRONICS Inc. in 2000 Dermot McElroy purchased the company back from the CHS Electronics liquidators. In 2004, iQon secured a deal to supply computers for retailer Tesco to be sold in the United Kingdom and Ireland.[2] In 2006, the company established its iQon France subsidiary based in Toulon to expand sales across Europe. As of 2007, iQon was Ireland's largest indigenous PC maker and largest PC exporter.[3] The company sought bankruptcy protection in November 2007 and went into liquidation in January 2008.[4][3] As of January 2008, iQon's call center and warranty service divisions continue to operate under a court-appointed liquidator and the company is up for sale.[4] References1. ^{{cite news |author=Emma Kennedy |author2=Gavin Daly |title=Fall-off in turnover at Iqon Technologies |url=http://archives.tcm.ie/businesspost/2007/10/21/story27577.asp |work=The Sunday Business Post |date=October 21, 2007 |accessdate=2008-01-26 }}{{dead link|date=November 2017 |bot=InternetArchiveBot |fix-attempted=yes }} 2. ^{{cite news |author=Chris Pillow |title=iQon wins €20m Tesco deal |url=http://archives.tcm.ie/businesspost/2004/08/29/story744523096.asp |work=The Sunday Business Post |date=August 29, 2004 |accessdate=2008-01-26 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20070309053140/http://archives.tcm.ie/businesspost/2004/08/29/story744523096.asp |archivedate=March 9, 2007 |df= }} 3. ^1 {{cite news |author=Andrew Thomas |title=Iqon seeks bankruptcy protection |url=http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2007/11/07/iqon-seeks-bankruptcy |work=The Inquirer |date=November 7, 2007 |accessdate=2008-01-26 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20071213220232/http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2007/11/07/iqon-seeks-bankruptcy |archivedate=December 13, 2007 |df= }} 4. ^1 2 {{cite news |author=Ian Kehoe |title=Iqon plans to sell company after collapse |url=http://www.sbpost.ie/post/pages/p/story.aspx-qqqt=IRELAND-qqqm=news-qqqid=29947-qqqx=1.asp |work=The Sunday Business Post |date=January 27, 2008 |accessdate=2008-01-26}} {{Dead link|date=October 2010|bot=H3llBot}}
