HistoryI Shot Cyrus was formed by members of local São Paulo hardcore bands Point Of No Return and Newspeak who felt the need to play straight ahead, fast hardcore influenced by bands like Infest and Youth Of Today at a time when the local scene was dominated by metalcore and similar styles. In later years, the group would develop a style of its own, adding significant Italian hardcore and crossover thrash influences. Initially a side project, I Shot Cyrus became a full-time band around 1999, after the band recorded the songs that would be featured on the Thrashmaster compilation LP alongside local bands Discarga, Insanus, Test Band Treaty, Infect and Newspeak. This record would mark the beginning of a vibrant thrashcore/powerviolence scene that became an important part of the Brazilian punk rock underground during the following decade. Thrashmaster, as well as other EP and compilation releases and shared bills with foreign bands like What Happens Next? and Vitamin X, slowly but steadily gave I Shot Cyrus international exposure leading to the release in 2003 of the band's debut full-length album, Tiranus, on the 625 Thrashcore label in the United States as well as a partial discography CD on Polish label Refuse Records. I Shot Cyrus toured Europe twice, in 2003 and 2005 and finally broke up in early 2009. Most former members of the band remained musically active, playing in bands such as Ratos de Porão, B.U.S.H., O Inimigo, Les Paralleles, D.E.R. and many others. DiscographyAlbums
