词条 | Julian Scott Department Store |
释义 |
Julian Scott Department Store was located at 151 West Fort Street in downtown Detroit, Michigan. In November 2003, the {{convert|18000|sqft|m2|adj=on}} store opening marked the return of luxury retailers to downtown Detroit after a 20+ year absence. Julian Scott made history as the first African-American-owned department store in the United States. Due to under-capitalization and lackluster sales, the store was forced to close its doors three weeks before its first anniversary. The 1900s era building was designed by the renowned New York architectural firm of McKim, Mead, and White. The structure has a lengthy history, once housing offices of Peoples State Bank, Manufacturers National Bank and Silver's office supply. External links
