HNL club Dinamo Zagreb and the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team. Hajrović started his professional career at Grasshopper, before joining Galatasaray in 2014. Six months later, he moved to Werder Bremen. In 2015 he had a loan spell with Eibar. Eventually he signed for Dinamo Zagreb in 2018. A former Swiss youth international, Hajrović even made his senior international debut for Switzerland, only to switch his allegiance to Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2013 and make over 20 caps since. He represented the nation at their first major tournament, the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Club careerEarly careerHajrović started playing football in local clubs FC Birr and FC Windisch, before joining Grasshopper's youth setup in 2000. Nine years later, he made his professional debut in a game against Luzern on 3 October.[2] His brother, Sead, also played with him in the academy before moving on to Arsenal.[3] Hajrović scored his first professional goals, a brace, in a Swiss Cup game on 19 September 2010.[4] About a year later, also in a cup game, he scored his first professional hat-trick.[5] GalatasarayOn 7 January 2014, Hajrović joined Turkish club Galatasaray on a four-and-a-half year deal for a transfer fee of €3.5 million.[6] He cited his Bosniak roots and Islam as some of the reasons he agreed to join Galatasaray.[7] On 2 February, he made his competitive debut for the club in a league game against Bursaspor.[8] He scored his first goal for Galatasaray in a cup win over Tokatspor.[9] Three weeks later, Hajrović played in his first UEFA Champions League game against Chelsea, which ended in a 1–1 draw.[10] His first trophy with the club was Turkish Cup, which he won on 7 May.[11] After filing a complaint to FIFA that he received no payments from Galatasaray, Hajrović was given the right to move on free transfer elsewhere.[12] Werder BremenOn 10 July 2014, he signed a four-year contract with Bundesliga club Werder Bremen.[13] On his competitive debut for the team, Hajrović opened the scoring against FV Illertissen in a DFB-Pokal game.[14] He made his league debut a week later against Hertha BSC.[15] Hajrović scored his first goal on 26 April 2015 against Paderborn 07.[16] On 31 August 2015, Hajrović was loaned to La Liga side Eibar on a season-long deal.[17] After a disappointing season, Eibar decided not to exercise their buy option, therefore letting Hajrović go back to Bremen.[18] Upon returning from unsuccessful loan spell, Hajrović got his chance to play for Werder Bremen once again and managed to secure a spot in the team.[19] However, on 3 December 2016, he suffered a severe knee injury which was diagnosed as a anterior cruciate ligament tear and ruled him out for the rest of the season.[20] Hajrović returned to the pitch on 16 September 2017, over nine months after the injury.[21] Dinamo ZagrebAfter terminating his contract with Werder Bremen in January 2018, Hajrović signed until June 2019 with Dinamo Zagreb, with an option for two additional seasons.[22] He debuted in a comfortable 4–2 away victory over Osijek on 10 February.[23] Hajrović scored first goal for his new club in a cup tie against Rijeka on 4 April.[24] In his first season with the club, Hajrović won the domestic double.[25] On 2 February 2019, Hajrović scored a brace against Rudeš, which were his first goals for the club in league.[26] International careerAfter representing Switzerland at youth levels, Hajrović made his senior international debut on 14 November 2012, coming on as a substitute in a friendly match against Tunisia.[27] However, in June 2013, he confirmed that he would opt to play for Bosnia and Herzegovina in the future as Ottmar Hitzfeld did not give him the desired playing time.[28] On 13 August 2013, Hajrović became eligible to play for Bosnia and Herzegovina, due to FIFA's approval of the application for changing his sport citizenship from Swiss to Bosnian.[29] On 26 August, national team manager Safet Sušić included Hajrović in his squad for two September 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification games against Slovakia, home and away.[30] He debuted in the home game on 6 September, which ended in an unexpected loss.[31] Just four days later, in the away game, Hajrović scored his first goal for Bosnia and Herzegovina, coming on from the bench in the 77th minute of the game. His very first contact with the ball after just a few seconds on the pitch resulted in a goal from long range, which brought Bosnia a crucial victory.[32] Hajrović was named in Bosnia and Herzegovina's squad for 2014 FIFA World Cup, their first ever major tournament.[33] He made his debut as a starter in the opening group match, a 1–2 loss to Argentina.[34] On 10 October 2017, Hajrović scored a brace against Estonia in the last game of 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying.[35] Personal lifeHajrović's parents are Bosniaks from Bijelo Polje, Montenegro, but they relocated to Sarajevo in 1980, after which they moved to Switzerland in 1987.[36] He and his wife Lejla got married in 2014.[37] Hajrović is fluent in German, English and Bosnian.
