Bennet was born in Forfarshire, Scotland.[1] Bennet stood in the Tuapeka electorate in the {{NZ election link|1887}} and was beaten by the incumbent, James Clark Brown.[2] He represented Tuapeka electorate from 1899 to 1908, when he died.[3] Further reading
