James River (Gaelic: Abhainn Sheumais) is a community in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located in Antigonish County.

Etymology

James River may have been named for the Reverend{{coord|45|34|12.8|N|62|7|54.35|W|name=James River, Nova Scotia|display=title|region:CA-NS_scale:100000}} James Munro, a Presbyterian minister who settled in the Antigonish area in 1797, remaining there from 1808 to 1818.^[1]
