DeathOn February 9, 2009, Lusk crashed while attempting to land a "Indian Air Backflip" (after Carey Hart who initiated it, see "Evolution of the backflip" in freestyle motocross) in the X Knights motocross competition in San José, Costa Rica, he under-rotated the flip, causing his front wheel to strike the landing.[3] Lusk was ejected head-first and sustained catastrophic brain damage.[14] Doctors performed an unsuccessful five-hour surgery at Rafael Ángel Calderón Guardia Hospital in San José in an attempt to save his life. He entered into cardiac and respiratory failure and died the next day. After his death, the third episode of the television show Nitro Circus was dedicated to Lusk.[7] At the time of his death, Lusk lived in Temecula, California with his wife, Lauren.[3] References1. ^1 2 3 4 5 {{cite web|url=http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/5/2474/Motorcycle-Article/FMX-Jeremy-Lusk-Dies-in-Costa-Rica.aspx|title= FMX Jeremy Lusk Dies in Costa Rica |last=Lynch|first=Cheryl |publisher=Metal Mulisha|accessdate=2009-02-11}} 2. ^Lynch, Cheryl (untitled press release), 2009-02-09, retrieved 2009-02-11 3. ^1 2 3 Jimenez, Marianela, [https://sports.yahoo.com/top/news?slug=ap-obit-lusk&prov=ap&type=lgns Freestyle motocross racer Jeremy Lusk dies], Associated Press, 2009-02-10, retrieved 2009-02-10 4. ^Freestyle motocross racer Jeremy Lusk dies, San Diego Union-Tribune. 2009-02-10, retrieved 2009-02-10 5. ^Jeremy Lusk hardly forgotten, still 'on the ride of his life' 6. ^{{cite web|last1=Higgins|first1=Matt|title=Some X Games Bad Boys Turn to the Bible|url=https://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/02/sports/02xgames.html|website=nytimes.com|accessdate=1 August 2009}} 7. ^1 R.I.P.
