The island measures {{convert|30|mi|km}} long and between {{convert|4|-|8|mi|km|abbr=out}} wide with an area of {{convert|142|sqmi|0|abbr=on}}, making it the 42nd largest island in the United States. The island's most notable feature is Mount Kanaga, a {{convert|4288|ft|m|adj=mid|-high}} volcano which last erupted in 1995.
