Born in Liverpool, Alexander began his football career with a club called Ulysses, before being picked up by Millwall, for whom he made his league debut in 1976. After scoring twice in 15 appearances over the course of two years with Millwall, he moved to Reading; he enjoyed greater success with Reading, scoring nine goals in 25 games. In 1981, he joined Northampton Town, but spent just one season with them before retiring from football at the age of 26 in 1982. Upon retiring from football, Alexander got a job with the BBC, but he later returned to football as club secretary at Watford. In 2000, he took up the same post at Tottenham Hotspur, spending 10 years there before applying for the same job at Manchester United, where he would replace the retiring Ken Ramsden.[1] He took over at Manchester United on 1 July 2010.[2] He is the uncle of Liverpool player Trent Alexander-Arnold.[3] References1. ^{{cite news |title=Reds' new Club Secretary |url=http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Club-News/2009/Dec/Reds-new-Club-Secretary.aspx |work=ManUtd.com |publisher=Manchester United |date=20 December 2009 |accessdate=22 December 2009 }} 2. ^{{cite news |title=Club Announcement |url=http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/articles/clubannouncement221209.html |work=Tottenhamhotspur.com |publisher=Tottenham Hotspur FC |date=20 December 2009 |accessdate=22 December 2009 }} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3987564/Liverpool-youngster-Trent-Alexander-Arnold-links-Manchester-United-tipped-Anfield-greatness.html|title=Liverpool youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold has links to Manchester United but is tipped for Anfield greatness|website=Daily Mail|last=Ladyman|first=Ian|date=30 November 2016|accessdate=16 January 2017}} External links
