He was born in Dublin and died in 1822.[1] Bowden, having studied at the Dublin Society's School of Architectural Drawing between May 1798 and 1802, won premiums in 1799, 1801 (as 'John Boden', ex-pupil) and 1802. He served his apprenticeship with Sir Richard Morrison. He designed many churches and courthouses around the country including St. Stephen's Church of Ireland (Pepper Canister), Mount Street, Dublin. St Stephen's was completed by his student Joseph Welland after his death.[2] In 1817 he entered the competition for the Wellington Testimonial in the Phoenix Park, Dublin.
