释义 |
John Jackson (1801–1848) was an English wood-engraver. Jackson was born at Ovingham, Northumberland in 1801, and was apprenticed to the wood-engraver Thomas Bewick. After a quarrel with his master, Jackson went to London and worked for the wood-engraver William Harvey.[1] Jackson made wood-engravings for Northcote's Fables and illustrations for the Penny Magazine.[2] In the early 1830s he taught wood-engraving to his younger brother Mason Jackson. In 1839 he provided over 300 prints for an illustrated history of wood-engraving with text written by William Andrew Chatto.[3] References1. ^{{cite book|title=A Brief History of Wood-engraving from Its Invention|author=Cundall, Joseph|year=1895|location=London|publisher=Low, Marston, & Co|pages=122–123|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=hZQMAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA122}} 2. ^{{cite DNB|wstitle=Jackson, John (1801-1848)|volume=29}} 3. ^{{cite book|author1=Jackson, John|author2=Chatto, William Andrew|title=A Treatise on Wood Engraving, Historical and Practical|year=1839|location=London|publisher=Charles Knight and Co|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=jfVAAAAAcAAJ}} External links
