John Ladds, RIBA, (1835–1926) was an architect best known for his work on churches and schools, very often church-affiliated schools. Working for much of his life in the north of England, his notable designs include Christ Church, Knaresborough, the Bowlee School in Rhodes near Manchester, Church School at Tonge, Alkrington, Lancashire and the National School in Newport, Shropshire, built in 1872. Ladds spent his last years in the North London neighbourhood of Harringay, where he died in 1926. His son Sidney Ladds worked as an architect to Ely Cathedral until 1950. Sources
