He started his career as a youth team player at West Ham United making his first team debut in October 1970, against Burnley. He played 68 games in all competitions for West Ham scoring two goals.[1] Ayris played youth team football for England making seven appearances in 1971.[2] Finding his first-team opportunities limited, Ayris spent three months on-loan with Cape Town City in 1975.
