Swieca fled Poland with his parent during World War II, shortly after it was occupied by Russia and Germany.[1] They spent two years in Japan, before moving to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.[1] He obtained his Ph.D from the University of São Paulo under Werner Güttinger in 1964.[1] He died in December 1980, after complications from a heart bypass surgery.[1][3] In the late 1960s, he received the Brazilian Santista science prize.[1] Important publications
