History

The project was completed in 1995.[1]

The Project

The project foundation stone laid by Smt.PRIYADARSHINI INDIRA GANDHI for the welfare of district. The Jurala has a full reservoir level of 1045 ft and has a full capacity of 11.94 TMC.[2] As of August 2013, the project has an estimated capacity of 9.74 TMC.

Karnataka had requested the Andhra Pradesh Government to release Rs. 91 crore

In the last four years, Andhra Pradesh has released Rs. 46 crore to Karnataka

RAICHUR: A high-level meeting of the district administrations from Raichur and Jogulamba Gadwal district (Telangana) will be convened here on 20 September to review the progress of rehabilitation of affected families in the Jurala Project and the proposed construction of bridges across the Krishna to provide access to historic islands in Raichur taluk.

According to official sources, the Andhra Pradesh Government had evinced interest in the early rehabilitation of affected families (in Raichur taluk) and the timely construction of the bridges to impound water to the full reservoir level. The Jurala Project was completed in 1995 with a capacity to store 12 tmcft of water. However, Andhra Pradesh could not impound water into its reservoir to the required level as it feared that some villages would be affected. This has affected irrigation in Gadwal and Alampur areas of Jogulamba Gadwal district.{{Citation needed|date=December 2018}}

However, the delay in rehabilitation of the affected families and the construction of three bridges in Raichur taluk has forced the Andhra Pradesh Government to limit the storage level in its project. Karnataka had requested the Andhra Pradesh Government to release Rs. 91 crore towards payment of compensation, loss of fertile land, rehabilitation of the affected families and construction of the bridges. In the last four years, Andhra Pradesh has released Rs. 46 crore to Karnataka. The Raichur district administration had released compensation for the loss of fertile land and purchased land for rehabilitation of affected families in Kurvakurd, Kurvakala, Magigadda, Buradipad and Agrahara villages in Raichur taluk. It also proposed to construct three bridges across the Krishna to provide access to the historic islands of Naradamuni in Naradagadda Island and Dattatreya Peetha in Kurvakala Island at an estimated cost of Rs. 21 crore.{{citation needed|date=January 2019}}

The Raichur district administration has initiated action for the construction of houses for affected families and asked the TOR-Steel of India, Bangalore to conduct a detailed survey for the bridges. It is expected these project will be completed in the next two years provided it receives funds from Andhra Pradesh. However, Andhra Pradesh may not able to impound water into its reservoir to its full level, unless Karnataka completes the rehabilitation process and the construction of bridges from its side. The Andhra Pradesh Government is under pressure as farmers of Mahaboobnagar district are demanding that water be impounded to the full reservoir level to enable irrigation.
