Kakdwip (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is an assembly constituency in South 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal.

Overview

As per orders of the Delimitation Commission, No. 131 Kakdwip (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is composed of the following: Kakdwip community development block, and Budhakhali and Narayanpur gram panchayats of Namkhana community development block.[1]

Kakdwip (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is part of No. 20 Mathurapur (Lok Sabha constituency) (SC).[1]

1977-2006

In the 2006 state assembly elections,[14] Ashok Giri of CPI(M) won the Kakdwip assembly seat defeating Manturam Pakhira of Trinamool Congress. Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Manturam Pakhira representing Trinamool Congress had won the seat in 2001[13]defeating Ashok Giri of CPI(M). In 1996[12]Ashok Giri of CPI(M) defeated Manturam Pakhira representing Congress. Hrishikesh Maity of CPI(M) won the seat in 1991,1987, 1982 and 1977 defeating Gourishankar Bhattacharjee of Congress in 1991[11]and 1987[10] and Basudev Sautya of Congress in 1982[9]and 1977.[8][17]
