It serves Kamarkundu in Hooghly district in the Indian state of West Bengal. OverviewThis is a rich agricultural area with several cold storages.[1] HistoryThe Howrah-Tarakeswar line was opened in 1885 and the Howrah-Bardhaman chord line in 1917.[2] It is part of Kolkata Suburban Railway system. It is {{convert|33|km}} from Howrah via Howrah-Bardhaman chord and {{convert|36|km}} via Howrah-Tarakeswar branch line.[3] Station oddityAt Kamarkundu, the Sheoraphuli-Bishnupur branch line goes above the Howrah-Bardhaman chord. Since the lines are at two levels, trains cannot switch routes. Platforms are at two levels.[4] References1. ^{{cite web | url= http://wbagrimarketingboard.gov.in/cold%20storage-ok/Cold%20storage11.html | title= List of functioning Cold Storage of West Bengal District wise as on 18.01.07 | publisher= West Bengal State Marketing Board | accessdate=2009-01-28}} 2. ^{{cite web|url =http://www.irfca.org/~mrinal/chronology.html |title =The Chronology of Railway Development in Eastern India. |accessdate= 2009-01-26 |last = |first = |work = |publisher =railindia }} 3. ^Railway Timetable 4. ^{{cite news |url= http://www.irfca.org/faq/faq-trivia.html#fasttrack |title=Trivia| work= Highest speed sections of track | publisher=IRFCA | date=|accessdate=2012-01-15 }} External links
