High school careerOtake attended Urawa Gakuin High School in Saitama, Saitama. He never pitched in a national high-school tournament, but was selected for the Japanese national team in the 2000 World Junior Baseball Championship. In 2001, he was drafted by Hiroshima Toyo Carp by first-round pick.
