It is based on the 1908 play of the same name by Georges Feydeau, set in Belle Époque Paris. It is one of a number of film adaptations to be made of the story.[1] It was entered into the 1949 Cannes Film Festival.[2] It was shot at the Billancourt Studios in Paris.
