Kenneth Allen Fox III is an American entrepreneur and investor.

Early life and education

Fox grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he started his first business at the age of 15, later graduating from Pennsylvania State University, with a B.S. in economics. He led the formation of The Fox Challenge at Pennsylvania State University. He also received an A.S. degree from CEH Oxford. He completed his first IPO at 29.[1]

Career

Safeguard Scientifics and TL Ventures

He worked as Director of West Coast operations for Safeguard Scientifics, Inc. and TL Ventures from 1994 to 1996.[1]

ICG

Fox co-founded the Internet Capital Group (ICG) in 1995 and ICG Asia, a Hong Kong-listed company later sold to Hutchison Whampoa.[2][3][4][5][6][7]

“At its peak in 2000,” according to Fortune, ICG “had a bigger market cap than General Motors. Then came the crash.” Until the 2008 crash, according to Fortune, Fox was “a poster boy for dot-com mania.”[8]

Stripes

Fox founded Stripes Group, a Manhattan-based growth equity firm that makes investments in internet, software-as-a-service (SaaS), and branded consumer products companies. It has invested in branded consumer companies including Stella & Chewy's, Reformation, Levain Bakery, Califia Farms, ON Running, and SmartWool, internet marketplaces including GrubHub, GoFundMe, Udemy, and Upwork, and SaaS & Internet businesses including Flatiron Health, eMarketer, Remitly, Refinery29, and SPINS.[9] He was Director of Stripes from February 1999 to December 2002. He founded Stripes Group, LLC in February 2003. He is the Founder and President of Stripes Group and has been Managing Partner since 2008. He is the Founder, Managing Partner, and President of Stripes Group Fund L.P.[10]

Fox also was a co-founder of Syndero, a marketer of beauty products, also known as Iconic Labs, LLC, and serves as its Chairman. He is a co-founder of A10 Capital, a commercial mortgage lender. He served as the President and Chief Executive Officer at VTB Holdings, Inc. He also worked as an analyst in the mergers and acquisitions department of Goldman Sachs.[11]

He has been a Director of Kareo, Inc since December 2012 and Udemy, Inc. since June 2, 2015. He has been a Director of Blue Apron Holdings, Inc. since April 2014. He has been a Director of Turtle Beach Corporation since January 2014. He also serves as a Director of Snooze, LLC, AUTOVIA Corporation, Bidcom, Deja.com, Entegrity Solutions Corporation, Syndero, Vivant Corporation, Epic Direct Network Inc., Sandata Technologies, LLC, Stella & Chewy’s LLC, the Reformation Inc., and the TEAK Fellowship.[12]

He is a Member of the Scientific Advisory Board at Epoch Innovations, Inc. He served as a Director of Parametric Sound Corp., Epic Advertising, Inc., Technology Leaders II L.P., Commerx, Inc., Onvia Inc., Sword CTSpace, Inc., RightWorks Corporation, NetQuote, and TL Ventures. He was the Chairman of Smartwool.[13]

Honors and awards

Fox was named the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2000. He won the Golden Plate Award from the American Academy of Achievement, and was named by the Industry Standard as the Most Innovative B2B Executive.[14]

He is a member of the A.C.A., A.C.I.I., and A.C.I.S.[15]

Personal life

Fox lives in New York City and is an avid outdoor athlete.[4] He is a board member of the TEAK Fellowship, a Development Partner of Acumen, and a supporter of code.org.[16][17][18]
