Ken Paulson is the dean of the College of Media and Entertainment at Middle Tennessee State University,[1] and president of the Newseum Institute's First Amendment Center; he formerly was president of the Newseum.[2] He is the former editor-in-chief of USA Today and remains a columnist there.[3] He created "Freedom Sings," a First Amendment stage show.

Paulson is also the host and producer of "The Songwriters," a television show broadcast by PBS affiliate stations across the United States featuring interviews with members of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. From 2000 to 2005, he was also the host of "Speaking Freely," a national television show about free speech and the arts. Guests included Robert Redford, Susan Sarandon, Harry Belafonte and Charlie Daniels.[4]

In 2017, he was appointed by Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam to the Tennessee Entertainment Commission.[5]

Paulson edited Gannett Company newspapers in Wisconsin, New York, New Jersey, and Florida.[6]

In addition to the bachelor's degree in journalism he earned from the University of Missouri, he has a law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law.
